As of 2026, Kyoto has Japan's highest rates (up to ¥10,000/night for luxury rooms), while most cities charge ¥100–¥500. Tokyo, Osaka, Hokkaido, Hiroshima, and Kanazawa are among the most visited cities with this tax.
